These goals have met with global challenges such as inequality, climate change, environmental degradation and peace. Ending absolute poverty remains on the top of the list. For its part, China has been relentlessly working on creating a moderately prosperous society, making arduous efforts in eradicating extreme poverty. So far, more than 850 million Chinese have escaped poverty, accounting for 70 percent of the global poverty reduction rate. CGTN travels to Baihe County in northwest China's Gansu province to hear from Xuelian, a young student, and volunteer teacher Yu Qing, about their battle against penury.
