Facebook Ad Rejected - How to correctly use the word YOU in copy

What to do when your Facebook ad got rejected and you think it might be because you used the word "YOU" in your ad copy? I keep hearing this myth about ads getting rejected because the word “YOU” is used in the copy too often. The truth is that if your ad got rejected related to you directly calling out your audience, you did it in a way that’s not compliant with Facebook's personal attributes policy. Your copy can’t call people out based on sensitive details about them such as race, religion, weight, medical conditions, gender identity, financial status, etc. It’s a fine line so let’s go through some examples to make this easier to digest: ✅ OK: “We have financial services to cover every financial need.” ❌ Facebook Jail: “Broke? Bankrupt? Check out our services.” ✅ OK: “New diabetes treatment available” ❌ Facebook Jail: “Treat your anxiety with these helpful meditations.” ✅ OK: “Find black singles today.” ❌ Facebook Jail: “Meet other black singles near you!” ✅ OK: “Atlantis Gay Cruises” ❌ Facebook Jail: “Are you gay?” ✅ OK: “Date Christian singles!” ❌ Facebook Jail: “Meet other Christian singles!” Do you see the difference? Calling out your target audience is powerful so definitely make use of it.
