Again | | Ivypool MAP (Part 17)

Oh man as soon as I knew about this MAP I knew I had to get in. I watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood for the first time back in summer of 2019 while attending Pre-college and I just fell in love, and this opening especially with its spectacular animation is super inspiring. It easily became my favorite show, however after recently watching and reading the manga for Attack on Titan it’s pretty close and hard to decide. But in terms of satisfactory endings and developments, I think FMAB may take the cake...because AOT gave me depression...I’m still recovering. ANYWAYS I love this opening with my whole heart and the anime even more so I had to participate in this project. I tried to pay homage to as many aspects of the show as I could when initially constructing this part and I hope it paid off! I couldn’t find a video containing the really nice rotating shot of Father from the final battle against everyone in episode 62(?) and was too tired to go screen record it from HBO Max last night when I finished it, but if you watched the show you probably know what I’m talking about. I was originally going to have a silly cut-off with alchemist shenanigans but again, it was really late on a school night and I needed sleep. Sorry, I’ll make sure my next cut-off is extra special! If I’m going to be honest, I should’ve gotten this thing done months ago, but schoolwork and other distractions (especially over the last few months) got in my way, some of which I couldn’t exactly control. I got my part in the last month of 2019 and was very on and off working on it since the turnaround was taking forever, however since then I have noticed why. Like many of my animations before, this specific part was done at 30 FPS because I wasn’t even aware that Photoshop was set to that rate and didn’t know how to change it until a few months ago. Of course now I animate at 24 FPS which is way faster and works better for me as it’s the industry standard, so this is the last animation that is going to be at that frame rate. I also didn’t know the onion skin tool existed which then proved to be a LIFESAVER when it came to coloring and shading, especially in regards to the turnaround. I also decided to go crazy on the lighting and shading to push myself a little and I hope that paid off because I think it really adds to the atmosphere! While I would’ve ended there, I went a little try-hard and animated characters in the foreground before that zoom in to make the scene feel more alive, which I hope made somewhat of a difference! I used Premiere Pro to do the zoom in feature and most of the camera movement, but minor editing and tweening was done in Photoshop as per usual!
